Chinese brands seek green leather

2 May 2012

Nearly one hundred leading Chinese brands including Belle, Aokang and Kangnai have called for the making of more environmentally friendly leather goods using eco-leather at a press conference announcing the leading brands of the CLIA’s GLM (Genuine Leather Mark) that took place in Beijing on April 26. The brands aim to establish a complete green supply chain in leather sector.

‘It needs concerted efforts from the whole industry to build a green production line using eco-leather to maintain sustainable growth in the industry, we need to take more action to achieve this goal’, said CLIA President, Su Chaoying. Leather made by 45 tanneries that have acquired certification of eco-leather in China should become the first choice to buy as they meet international standards.

Leading brands in the Chinese leather industry should take a lead in the promotion of eco-leather and green production, and stick to the concept of environmental integrity, quality and fashion, said Su.
