BIMA's new leather inspection table

29 November 2004

BIMA's new pneumatic leather inspection table allows the tanner to stretch the leather and easily find any hidden faults in the grain or colour of the skin. Expensive rework, such as replacing certain parts of the leather at the finishing stage, is therefore avoided. The stretching action can be adjusted precisely or is powered by directed impulses of compressed air. This procedure is extremely important, especially as many faults are only detected after final inspection, thus involving substantial costs. Faults and areas which cannot be used are marked with a pencil or chalk, thus facilitating cutting with punching tools or the use of computer-controlled cutting devices. BIMA's new leather inspection table is equipped in such an optimal manner that the clamps can be easily opened and closed by swinging. Therefore, it takes only a small amount of time to lay out the leather from the operator's side and fix it in the clamping device. Arduous thread-up is also avoided. The table maintains a constant distribution of power over the whole clamping area and, therefore, avoids any damage to the grain.Leather can be transported quickly to and from the clamping device. The clamping mechanism removes the need for smoothing the leather and allows the area measurement to be taken from the centre of the skin. Left: The control surface is in a sloping position to avoid parallax faults, achieve excellent visual inspection of the area and ensure ergonomic and labour-saving functioning
