BASF appoint global head of leather chemicals

BASF have appointed Alex Wartini as Vice President, Global Business Management Leather Chemicals, effective July 1. He succeeds Thomas Sattler who has moved on to a new position within BASF.


Alex Wartini embarked on his career with BASF in 1999 as a Research Manager, BASF Chemicals Research & Engineering in Ludwigshafen, Germany. Subsequently, he took on several key management positions within BASF, including BASF Pharma Contract Manufacturing, BASF Venture Capital and BASF Future Business.

Wartini was based in Singapore between 2008 and 2010 focusing on strategy and global projects for the Leather and Textile Chemicals business. Immediately prior to assuming this new role, he was Senior Process Manager for BASF Performance Chemicals division in Ludwigshafen, Germany.

Wartini holds a PhD in Organic Chemistry from the Ruprecht-Karls- University in Heidelberg, Germany, and is a Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

BASF posted sales of about €73.5 billion in 2011 and had more than 111,000 employees as of the end of the year.
