AAFA and SATRA celebrate 25 year partnership

15 September 2005

SATRA is celebrating a 25-year association with its transatlantic partner the Footwear Division of the American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA). The anniversary was celebrated at the Global Leather pavilion in the WSA Show at Las Vegas which was attended by SATRA chief executive Dr Ron Whittaker. A historic deal was struck between the two organisations in 1980 in which all full footwear members of the American association became members of SATRA through the payment of one corporate subscription fee. 'Despite all the changes which have occurred in the US and global footwear industries in the interim period, this relationship still stands firm and SATRA's publications, products and services remain fully utilised by AAFA members', says Dr Whittaker. 'Whilst the requirements of US members have altered significantly, as the industry had moved from manufacturing to resourcing, the direct link through AAFA had ensured that close contact with the members had been maintained and their requirements met.' Dr Whittaker attended an AAFA footwear division board meeting in Las Vegas and joined the organisation at its booth at the WSA show. Fawn Evenson, president of the footwear division of AAFA, said she was delighted to be celebrating a quarter of a century of close partnership with SATRA. 'We have always found the technical contribution from SATRA excellent and the best available. I look forward to AAFA members receiving the full benefits of SATRA's research and services for many years to come.'
